I grew up surrounded by animals – horses, dogs, pigs and cats and learned at a very young age that we have a responsibility to help those who can’t help themselves. I have had a wide variety of jobs from Art Department Coordinator on feature films to exercise rider at the race track. I have also volunteered with many different organizations over the years. But nothing has been more addictive or rewarding than my time spent at ACCT. I am lucky enough to have a flexible schedule which allows me 12-15 hours a week to spend at the shelter. And I am lucky enough to have an understanding family who see the benefits of the time and energy spent at ACCT.
I started volunteering at ACCT a few years ago when I realized how badly people were needed. I don’t remember why but I connected with Philadoptable’s own Michelle Helms who got me my own personal orientation in order to expedite the process. My time at ACCT is mainly spent helping the dogs that seem to be flying under the radar, finding out what I can about them and helping them to get noticed. I also am part of the Pen Pal program which has been so rewarding. I am currently working with Buckley, my 38th Pen Pal (with my co-Pen Pal Katherine).
