Get Your Pet Supports Philadoptables’ Mission to Help Save Pets’ Lives
New Online Community Provides Lifesaving Option to Local Pets in Need of Re-Homing
Getyourpet.com is supporting Philadoptables’ mission to save lives and build a better community by keeping dogs and cats out of the shelters. Get Your Pet is an online community that directly connects people who need to give up a pet with people who want to adopt a pet. It’s a simpler, smarter, and more humane way to adopt.
Animal shelter euthanasia remains the leading cause of death for dogs and cats in the U.S., killing more pets than any known disease. Last year alone, Philadelphia shelters euthanized more than 10,000 animals.
“We are thrilled to support Philadoptables’ mission and to help pets go from one good home to another,” said Get Your Pet Founder and life-long animal welfare advocate, Angela Marcus. “Get Your Pet will prevent thousands of dogs and cats from entering the stressful animal shelter environment, where they are exposed to illness and the possibility of being euthanized.”
Get Your Pet offers people who need to give up their pet (Guardians), the opportunity to post their pet’s picture with a profile on the site at no cost. Those who want to adopt (Adopters) can freely browse up to date pet profiles until they find a pet they want to meet. For more on Get Your Pet and how it works without shelter surrender visit HERE.
“We look forward to having our foster communities use Get Your Pet as a resource to help get pets adopted faster and find them forever homes,” said Michelle Helms, president and founder of Philadoptables. “Together, we hope to keep more pets out of the shelter in 2017.”
Getyourpet.com recently launched in the greater Philadelphia first, with other regions of the U.S. soon to follow. A portion of the proceeds from Get Your Pet will benefit local animal shelters.
Visit getyourpet.com for more information about their pet adoption service, which helps pets go from one good home to another.
Philadoptables Sponsors Community Cat Shelter Events
Philadoptables, in partnership with Best Friends Animal Society, Project M.E.O.W., and the Granny Project, has sponsored THREE recent events to help out Philadelphia’s community cats this winter!
On October 16th, 2016, at ACCT Philly’s Hunting Park campus and again on December 3rd, 2016, at the Beaumont Warehouse, cat lovers from all over Philadelphia came together to learn how to build shelters for their outdoor four-legged friends. Over 200 shelters were built and taken back to the community by workshop attendees. These shelters provide outdoor cats with a safe, warm home during inclement weather and are critical to their survival during the cold winter months.
Additionally on January 16th, 2017, more than 50 cat lovers came together at ACCT Philly on MLK Day of Service to construct 50+ additional shelters for Philadelphia’s homeless cats. It was another really great day for community cats, caretakers, trappers and community service volunteers.
Hooray for warm kitties!

Happy New Year!
2016 was a BUSY and WONDERFUL year for Philadoptables!
- Our rescue partners again amazed us by pulling thousands of urgent, sick, and injured animals from ACCT Philly. We provided food and supplies, and we donated toward medical costs for these miracle working teams.
- We also branched out to embrace the outdoor kitties by sponsoring two cat shelter building events and purchased supplies for Best Friends (they trap/neuter/release for the city).
- We donated “Adopt Me” vests and bandanas, Kongs, a fridge and freezer, a shed, and other needed items for ACCT Philly.
- We hosted a low-cost microchip and vaccine clinic, various adoption events, appreciation breakfasts, marched in parades, and rallied for House Bill 869. We laughed, cried, and snuggled lots of homeless pets, wishing them each a happy life.
- Our daily focus, however, was keeping the pet food pantry stocked. Thanks to our amazing donors, we were able to provide free food for low income folks and we donated a second box to keep those donations clean and secure.
These results don’t come easy and it is by working together as a Board, as well as our fantastic volunteers, that we are able to accomplish these things! To you, our donors and friends, we say THANK YOU – we would not be able to do it without your support! Happy New Year!
