Puppy In Heart Failure Saved

When our friends at Finding Shelter Animal Rescue shared 8-week-old, Pink’s story, we knew we wanted to help donate towards her care. Thanks to our generous supporters, we were fortunate to donate urgently and critically needed funds to save her!

Read the heartbreaking story from Finding Shelter Animal Rescue below:

“We need some urgent funds!!! Here is the story:Yesterday our director went to Lancaster County, PA to pick up an 8 week old puppy with a grade 4 heart murmur who could not be sold. She was voluntarily surrendered from a legal, licensed kennel. You could feel the heart murmur just holding her it was that intense. On the one hour drive back from the farm, the puppy started to become restless but when she was resting, her breathing became rapid. Instead of driving to a temporary foster home (she was intended to be transferred to a trusted rescue partner on Sunday), she was rushed to the ER. X-rays determined that the puppy, who we named Pink, was in congestive heart failure. Thanks to the quick work of her veterinarian, she was placed in oxygen and given lasix. The cardiologist diagnosed her with PDA (patent ductus arteriosis) which is fatal in severe cases like Pink if not surgically corrected. More about PDA: https://www.vet.cornell.edu/…/patent-ductus-arteriosus So tiny, 2lb Pink had emergency heart surgery today and is already awake and drinking some water. She has a drain in her chest and is in oxygen. She has a lot more recovering to do but surgery was a success and we hope that she continues to recover well. Her medical costs are already over $7,000 in 24 hours for diagnostics, critical emergency care, surgery and hospitalization. We desperately need your help to cover these surprise medical expenses. To donate: https://www.findingshelter.org/donations/ Thank you!”

Video of Pink in distress during her freedom ride plus an update can be found here

“This was the moment that baby Pink started to show signs of distress on her freedom ride after being released from a puppy producer. Thankfully, she survived after having emergency, life saving surgery for a genetic heart condition (a $7,000 surgery). The rest of her litter mates were sold to unsuspecting buyers because they “seemed fine.”Those buyers purchased online and via pet stores after being transferred to puppy dealers. We respectfully ask that Senator Lisa Baker (PA Senate Judiciary Committee) and PA State Rep. Dan Moul (House Agricultural Committee) put SB234 and HB1399 “Victoria’s Law” up for a fair vote. The consumers and animals of Pennsylvania should not have to suffer just so some unscrupulous folks can make a buck. Pennsylvanians deserve honesty, transparency and safety when adding a new family member to their home.”

Neglected and Unwanted…Never Again

These are the heartbreaking and very real moments of animal rescue. Earlier this week, our friends at J & Co Dog Rescue welcomed Jasper to their pack.

Jasper was found running stray and in dire condition. After ending up at ACCT Philly on a “chip hold” everyone was hopeful that Jasper’s family would come for him.

But…they didn’t.

This sweet and gentle giant waited days for his people to come, only to be discarded like he didn’t matter. That chapter of his life is over.

J & Co jumped into action and quickly made the much-needed promise to give Jasper the care, love, and life he deserves. The team at J & Co noticed immediately that Jasper was suffering from neurological issues that affected his ability to walk and balance. Thanks to a loving foster home, he’s adjusting to his new life already!

What everyone thought would be an easy start to his new life, took a turn for the worse. Jasper had to be rushed to an Emergency Vet after expelling a t-shirt and chewed-up pair of underwear from his body. They suspected the clothing items have been lodged in his stomach for weeks! To think of how much he would have suffered on the street without the critical lifesaving care, is heartbreaking.

When Philadoptables heard Jasper’s story, we knew we wanted to help give this sweet boy the life he desperately deserves. Thanks to our generous supporters, we were lucky to provide a donation to J & Co towards Jasper’s care.

The latest update from J & Co on Jasper,

“Being abandoned by his owners, tummy full of clothing, and neurological issues… this boy is really going through it but remains the sweetest gentle giant. Jasper goes back to Patt Veterinarian Hospital today for X rays on his spine. All 4 paws buckle and drag when he walks causing his nails and toes to be worn down . His bills are quickly adding up and we would be so grateful for contributions towards his care. Thank you for all the love and support for this amazing boy ♥️“

50+ Community Cats Warmer This Winter

Teamwork makes the dream work! Over the weekend, local animal welfare advocates from various groups, came together to make life a little warmer for community cats. Philadoptables is very fortunate to donate towards this project and in the end, 50+ shelters were made for our feline friends! Your support makes these partnerships and efforts for our community possible!

The following is from our friends at The Cat Collaborative, “Wow – what an amazing group of people who came out in the FREEZING temperatures to help make winter shelters for the kitties! Thank you so much to Lina Ruth and Julianne Davis , who led the event, and to all the incredible volunteers who showed up to help.

Special thanks to Diana Bauer and Philadoptables for their very generous donation, which made a huge dent in what we had to spend on supplies. I’m so proud to be a part of such a positive and inspiring group of people who are doing so much to bring about change for the outdoor cats of Philadelphia! Cat Advocate Rockstars!”
