Shelter Clean Up Day Recap
Our volunteers really rock! Today they braved the heat and spotted lantern flies to bust their butts & clean up the ACCT Philly shelter. They rinsed off dog beds, built a shed, put together benches, picked up trash, did I mention they picked up trash? Fences were repaired and yummy food treats were made for the doggies. Some of us even painted rooms inside while others hung sail shades in the dog runs. We just want to help make our city shelter a safe place for the animals, volunteers, and adopters. Thank you to all who helped today !!! Much thanks to Maria and Andrea for helping our volunteers make dog treats and to the Dub Fitness family for coming out in full force!
Our first TNR clinic was a huge success!
Sunday, August 23 was an amazing day! We co-hosted a TNR clinic which was totally free to anyone who brought in an outside (or three or five) cat for spay/neuter surgery. This service is vital to keeping a control on what often becomes an overwhelming situation as cats reproduce. Our total for the event was not 100 as planned – it was 119 cats through surgery- 52 female and 67 male kitties! The cost of the clinic was covered by Philadoptables and The Peanut Fund. The Philly cat community rocks- such special people! Listening to all the stories of their beloved community/outside cats was really wonderful.
We are HAPPY to help such great animal lovers and THANK everyone who came out today! Special thanks to Marta for organizing the event and for the wonderful care given to these kitties by PAWS staff Natalie, Lucy, and their team.
Bonnie
On Thursday we saw a video of a sad pup with hair loss on the urgent list at ACCT Philly. She was brought into the shelter by a kind Philly police officer who found her tied to a fence. She’s probably no older than 5 but clearly her life hasn’t been easy. What kind of person leaves a living breathing animal tied to a fence? She didn’t even have an opportunity to find food/shelter/water for herself.
Hillside SPCA agreed to take her into their care. Check out the picture of her ‘freedom ride’ out of the shelter- she rode on her rescuer’s lap the whole way. Best wishes, Bonnie!
