Philadoptables is working to build a play yard for the dogs of Philadelphia’s overcrowded city shelter. This new play yard is an important project, as it will help provide a place for the dogs to blow off steam and to meet potential new families! Plans for this new yard include a 22×48 completely fenced in area with feature upgrades including a wooden pavilion, making it usable in all kinds of weather, and benches. Another important feature will be the artificial self- draining turf, which allows for disease control and prevention.
Finished Project – What the Dog Play Yard will look like
The most important benefit of all is the opportunities for play and socialization this new yard will provide. Living in a shelter is stressful for dogs, who are social creatures by nature and crave interaction with humans and other dogs. Play allows dogs to get their wiggles and zoomies out and keep them adoptable longer! Dogs who have had the chance to play make a better presentation in their kennels, which increases their chances for adoption.
We want to add to a large donation from Wish Upon A Hero and we need your help in the form of donations! Please help us pull down the barbed wire and make this urban puppy paradise a reality!
