Spring into Love — Adopt a Pet This Season!

Why Adoption Matters: Give a Shelter Pet a Second Chance at Life

Every day, thousands of animals across the country wait in shelters, hoping for someone to walk through the door and choose them. In Philadelphia, ACCT Philly takes in over 20,000 cats and dogs each year — many of them strays, surrendered pets, or animals in urgent need of care. While some of these animals are lucky enough to find loving homes quickly, others wait days, weeks, or even longer. That’s why adoption and rescue efforts matter more than ever — and why choosing to adopt can literally save a life.

The Power of Adoption

When you adopt a pet from a shelter like ACCT Philly, you’re doing more than bringing home a companion. You’re giving a second chance to an animal who may have been abandoned, abused, or simply overlooked.

Many shelter pets are already house-trained, socialized, and full of love. Others need a bit of patience and care — but the bond you’ll build will be unlike anything else. And with dogs and cats of all ages, sizes, and even breeds (yes, purebreds too!) entering the shelter daily, you’re sure to find a match that fits your home and lifestyle.

Why It Matters

✅ You’re saving a life — and making space for another animal in need.
✅ All pets are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and temperament-tested before adoption.
✅ You’re helping to combat puppy mills and pet overpopulation.
✅ Adoption counselors help match you with the right pet, ensuring a smoother transition into your home.
✅ 25% of shelter animals are purebreds, but all of them are full of love.

More Than One Path to Adoption

If you’re not sure you’re ready or don’t find your perfect match at ACCT Philly right away, there are many local rescue groups working hand-in-hand with the shelter — saving lives every day by pulling animals and placing them into foster homes until they’re adopted. When you adopt from these organizations, you’re still helping a shelter pet find their forever family.

Take the First Step

Whether you’re ready to adopt now or just starting to explore, we encourage you to learn more about the adoption process, meet the animals, and consider opening your heart and home.

From Crisis to Compassion: Helping a Sweet Stray in Need

Early Wednesday morning, we received an email from a local emergency vet that tugged at our hearts:

“A Good Samaritan dropped off this cat overnight that was likely hit by a car & has a jaw fracture. He was wearing a collar but does not have a chip. He’s about a year old & not neutered. He is the SWEETEST boy. We are trying to find a rescue to sponsor him so that he can see our dentist on Friday. Please let me know if you can be of any help!!”

Our answer was simple: YES, we can.

Philadoptables immediately sprang into action—posting the urgent request to our rescue network and pledging a $300 donation toward his care. Within hours, the amazing team at Charlie’s Army stepped up to take this injured sweetheart under their wing.

While we’re grateful he’s now in loving hands, this journey is far from over. A sedated dental visit to repair his jaw fracture will cost thousands—a huge financial burden for a rescue working tirelessly to help animals like him.

We’re calling on our incredible community to help us give this boy the second chance he deserves. 💛

Please consider donating a few dollars to support his care: Venmo @Marie-gutshall
Every bit makes a difference.

Together, we’re not just saving lives—we’re showing what compassion looks like in action.

Shelter Cleanup Day at ACCT Philly: Volunteers Making a Difference!

On Saturday, April 5th, our incredible Philadoptables volunteers gathered at ACCT Philly for a much-needed shelter cleanup — and wow, did they deliver!

Despite a little resistance from Mother Nature, our dedicated crew rolled up their sleeves and got to work. From the moment they arrived, the energy was high and the results were even higher.

Here’s just a glimpse of what was accomplished:

  • ✅ Sorting lots (and we mean lots) of linen donations
  • 🌿 Trimming overgrown weeds and bushes
  • 🧹 General yard and trash clean-up
  • 🛏️ Repairing Kuranda dog beds
  • 🔧 Building shelving units for the dog isolation area and laundry trailer
  • 🧼 Scrubbing cat cages until they sparkled
  • 🧺 Tackling loads of laundry
  • 🐶 Whipping up tasty doggie treats
  • 🐾 Assembling adoption packets

…and yes, there was even more linen sorting!

Every volunteer brought heart, hustle, and hands-on help to improve life at the shelter for the animals and staff alike. It’s incredible what can be accomplished in just one day when passionate people come together for a cause they care about.

We can’t thank our volunteers enough for their time, effort, and dedication. Stay tuned for some amazing photos from the day — because this kind of love and teamwork deserves to be shared.

THANK YOU, EVERYONE!

Neno’s Second Chance: From Dental Pain to Recovery After a Life-Saving Amputation

About two years ago, we met a special community cat named Neno, whose dedicated caretaker, Marlene, reached out for help. Neno was suffering from severe dental pain, and with your support, we were able to cover the cost of a full dental procedure to ease his discomfort and improve his quality of life.

Fast forward to just a few days ago—Marlene contacted us again, but this time with heartbreaking news. Neno had disappeared for a week and returned home with a severely injured leg, likely the result of being hit by a car.

Thanks to Marlene’s quick action, Neno was taken to Dutton Road Veterinary Clinic in Northeast Philly. The vet team determined that his femur was badly fractured, and the most humane path forward was amputation.

💔 It was a tough decision—but the right one.
💪 The surgery was successful, and Neno is now recovering comfortably at home with Marlene by his side.

With the help of Marlene’s friends and family, and a $400 donation from Philadoptables, the remaining balance on Neno’s medical bill is just $400. Every little bit helps—and we know how much this resilient boy means to his caretaker and the community.

🐱 How You Can Help Neno:

If you’re able to give $5, $50—or anything in between—it will make a direct impact on Neno’s recovery.

Rose Tree Elementary Students Make a Big Impact for Animals in Need

Compassion starts young, and the students and faculty at Rose Tree Elementary are proving just that! Thanks to the dedication of teacher Chrissy Ann Maguire, an incredible collection drive was organized to support animals in need throughout the greater Philadelphia area.

With a shared goal of helping local shelters and rescues, the students came together to collect an impressive seven large totes and boxes filled with essential pet supplies. Their generous donations included:
🐾 Pet food and treats to keep bellies full
🐾 Toys to provide enrichment and comfort
🐾 Cat litter to help keep shelter spaces clean
🐾 Beds to ensure pets have a cozy place to rest

This initiative is more than just a donation—it’s a lesson in kindness and giving back. Teaching children the value of compassion for animals at an early age helps build a more caring future, and we are beyond grateful for the generosity of everyone involved.

A huge thank you to Chrissy Ann Maguire and the entire Rose Tree Elementary community for thinking of the animals! Your kindness will make a real difference in the lives of so many cats and dogs in need.

Would you like to organize a collection drive for Philly-area shelter animals? We’d love to help! Message us to learn how you can get involved. 💙🐾
