Being invited to participate in The Preston and Steve Show’s Camp Out for Hunger 10 years ago was a game changer for Philly’s hungry animals. During the last 10 years we have been able to collect truckloads of pet food donations for the city’s pet food pantry- a service that keeps families together. We have helped thousands of animals with this collected food, helped numerous rescues and foster parents who have pulled shelter animals to safety. ‘Grateful’ does not even describe how we feel- thank you for this lifesaving opportunity.
Friends Helping Friends – Medical Grants Through Philadoptables
One of the ways that Philadoptables assists animals in need is through grants for medical expenses. Rescues can submit an application for a grant to obtain funds for medical expenses for dogs and cats in their care.
The first medical grant recipient was Banjo. Banjo was rescued by One Love Animal Rescue from a shelter in Southern New Jersey. Banjo was in the shelter for 8 months prior to being saved by One Love Animal Rescue and has to exit to the shelter with a rescue after having a seizure. Unfortunately Banjo continued to have seizures and was rushed to the ICU at the rescues vet. The cost of ICU care is very expensive and our grant assisted with Banjo’s care and diagnostics. Banjo continued to decline and the decision was made to humanely euthanize him surrounded by the love of his foster and the rescue.
Philadoptables will continue to support animal rescues work through medical grants like this in order to assist other dogs and cats who need our help!
We need your help – Camp Out For Hunger 2019!
UPDATE– Pet food donations needed- This is our 10th year in a row (TEN YEARS! ) collecting cat and dog food for the pet pantry. Our food drive will run for the next three weeks and cat and dog food donations can be dropped off at any of these convenient locations. ?
We are looking for businesses, offices, schools, and individuals to collect donated pet food during our annual pet food drive at Camp Out for Hunger 2019.
Many people don’t know that Philadoptables stocks a pet food pantry in Philadelphia for people who cannot feed their pets. Over 300 animals are helped monthly! In 2010 Philadoptables was invited to collect pet food at WMMR’s The Preston & Steve Show’s Camp Out For Hunger. This event is a food drive for people since its inception, but the show hosts were kind enough to see the effect the economy was having on animals and their families. Collected pet food goes to families in need, foster parents of Philly’s open intake shelter and rescue partners who pull animals from the Philly shelter and into their loving care.
This will be our TENTH year being part of this amazing event! WMMR radio hosts Preston and Steve live in an RV for a week while conducting live shows out of a giant tent. This week-long event is super fun but more importantly – everyone there is donating people and pet food of those in need.
Philadoptables’ preparation begins a couple months in advance as we start identifying locations to place collection boxes – schools, offices, stores, everywhere we can think of! Our volunteers are amazing, and all collected food is brought to the BIG EVENT – December 2- December 6 at Xfinity Live!
Email us at [email protected] if you can help feed hungry animals! We will provide a letter of introduction, collection boxes, downloadable flyers, and posters.
Follow us on Facebook for updates as we ramp up to the event. You can help make this year a success!

Winter Cat Shelter Workshop
We sponsored Catadelphia’s awesome cat shelter building workshop and we were so amazed at how many people attended! It was incredible to see so many compassionate people come out and build these winter shelters to help keep community cats safe and protected during the brutal winter weather. A simple beverage cooler or storage bin turned into a shelter can make a huge difference for these critters. Thank you to all that participated! CLICK HERE to view photos from the workshop.
TNR Vouchers for Philadelphia Cats!
TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) is such an essential part of reducing cat and kitten intake at the only open intake shelter in Philadelphia ACCT Philly. It’s preventative, innovative and proven to reduce the number of cats and kittens being born on the streets.
Currently, and for an unknown amount of time, the shelter has stopped TNR due to lack of veterinary staff. We at Philadoptables had to do our part to assist and have been funding TNR surgeries.
Philadoptables purchased 50 vouchers so the community can alter cats at no charge. So far about half of the vouchers we have provided through Forgotten Cats have been redeemed by Philadelphia trappers and colony caretakers!
Please support TNR and assist those people in your community who trap and feed community cats!
