Support for TNR

Philadoptables is committed to helping community cats in the Philadelphia area. Through this commitment, we have sponsored many TNR surgeries.

TNR stands for Trap, Neuter, Return. Community cats are cared for by feeders who are residents of the community but with over 400,000 stray cats in Philadelphia, it is important that these cats are spayed and neutered. Once a community cat is spayed or neutered, they will have an ear tip that shows this so if they are trapped again, it is already known that they are fixed.

By assisting with funding for these surgeries, Philadoptables is supporting our mission of helping to reduce the number of cats and kittens being brought into the city’s open intake shelter, ACCT Philly.

5 New TNR Traps for The Cat Collaborative

Meow!

The Cat Collaborative has been hard at work helping cats in our community. Since November 2021, 187 cats and kittens have been through TCC’s TNR program. Of the 187 cats trapped, 69% have found rescue placement!

We were happy to help our friends at TCC continue their life saving work by purchasing five brand new traps!

Colony Cats Receive Critical Care + TNR

One part of Philadoptables’ mission includes helping community cats. Community cats are outdoor cats who may be feral or semi-feral but still need care and to be spayed and neutered. We were contacted by a local animal advocate about a colony of cats in Yeadon, PA – Delaware county.

With the help of local trappers, 19 cats were trapped for spay/neuter and taken to Forgotten Cats for their surgery. This process is called TNR – which stands for trap, neuter, return.

Four of those cats were kittens who were sent to rescue. One cat had a severe eye infection and the eye had to be removed. That kitty, Vixen, who is pictured above (black and white), will now live a more healthy and happy life from getting the medical care she needed. During the TNR process, cats are spayed or neutered and given vaccines.

We are thankful we can support community cats like Vixen who need our help! All made possible through partnerships and grant funding with Finance of America Cares – thank you FOAC!

Community Cats Receive Medical Care + TNR

When trapping outdoor cats, you never know what type of medical issues you may run into. Helping community cats is part of our mission.

When our friend Angelo reached out to us and asked if we could assist with the spay and neuter of about 15 cats from a colony in Philadelphia, we of course said yes!

While in surgery at Forgotten Cats, it was found that this kitty had an injured eye that was causing pressure to build and would eventually rupture. We sponsored the cost to have his eye removed in addition to his neuter. This could be the only time that a community cat gets vet care so we wanted to ensure this guy got what he needed medically!

Want to help? We have a fund specifically for TNR and you can note for your donation to go to that fund!

Our first TNR clinic was a huge success!

Sunday, August 23 was an amazing day! We co-hosted a TNR clinic which was totally free to anyone who brought in an outside (or three or five) cat for spay/neuter surgery. This service is vital to keeping a control on what often becomes an overwhelming situation as cats reproduce. Our total for the event was not 100 as planned – it was 119 cats through surgery- 52 female and 67 male kitties! The cost of the clinic was covered by Philadoptables and The Peanut Fund. The Philly cat community rocks- such special people! Listening to all the stories of their beloved community/outside cats was really wonderful.

We are HAPPY to help such great animal lovers and THANK everyone who came out today! Special thanks to Marta for organizing the event and for the wonderful care given to these kitties by PAWS staff Natalie, Lucy, and their team.
