Supporting Our Community During Kitten Season

The term “kitten season” may sound like a magical season filled with cute and cuddly baby felines. While baby cats are unbelievably cute, thousands of them can enter shelters within weeks, making kitten season the most challenging time of the year in rescues and shelters nationwide.

Here in Philly, since we experienced a warmer winter than usual, kitten season began early and animal welfare warriors felt the pressure sooner than expected.

With a warmer season and influx of new kittens, local resources were sparse and organizations had to provide even more care than usual.

We remain dedicated to supporting cats and kittens in our community and through kitten season outreach, we’re pleased to provide over $8,000+ to local organizations! To help our local rescue friends provide life-saving and critical care to breeding cats and kittens in need, we set out to support as many organizations as possible.

Thank you to our rescue friends listed below for their service and dedication to kitten season and our cat friends who need us most.

  • Community Cat Club
  • Lucky You Animal Rescue
  • Calla’s Critter Rescue
  • Feline Urban Rescue and Rehab
  • Foxy’s Cradle
  • Cat Tales, Inc.
  • Second Chances Rescue
  • Lucky Dawg Animal Rescue
  • Charlie’s Army Animal Rescue
  • Voorhees Animal Orphanage
  • Cheshire Cat Rescue & Sanctuary
  • PALS
  • PURR/TCC
  • Kitkat Playroom
  • Randall’s Rescue

Interested in helping cats and kittens? You can help too! Donations and foster parents are needed now more than ever. By opening your heart and home up to a kitten (or a litter and maybe mama!) you not only save fragile lives, you also free up valuable resources in the sheltering community.

Senior Duo Rescued From Abandoned House

Louie and Lucie get a new chance at love and life!

After being found in an abandoned home with visible signs of neglect, our friends at Noah’s Ark Rescue Project and Sanctuary stepped up to save their lives.

We are honored to donate $400 toward their second chance at the love and life they deserve.

Update from NARP: This senior pair was found in a filthy, abandoned house. No one really knows how long they were fending for themselves. They are sadly snuggling at the shelter and have no idea that they are about to die. 💔

They are both scared in the shelter, and are only happy when they are together.🥺 Lucie and Louie are estimated to be about 9 years old with skin/ear/eye infections, broken teeth, some and hearing loss. They are both sweet and low key, medium sized pups. They both had good meets with other dogs. 😢

Thanks to NARP, generous supporters, and a loving foster, Louie and Lucie are SAFE!

Cat With Broken Pelvis Saved From Code Red

In her short life, Burrito, found herself gravely injured and marked as Code Red at a local shelter. Our friends at Rise Again Animal Rescue vowed to rescue her and provide the urgent medical care she needed. With a suspected fractured pelvis and the sweetest personality, we were honored to donate $400 toward her care. Feel better soon, sweet girl!

Update from Rise Again Animal Rescue: “X-Rays showed a broken pelvis AND a broken femur. She will liking need an FHO-Femoral Head Ostectomy, this can cost anywhere from $1500-$3,000. We will be scheduling a surgery consult ASAP to have a final estimate and plan.

The Vet said this isn’t something that just happened. It’s terrible to think she was living on the streets for who knows how long in unimaginable pain. 😭😭 She is also skin and bones, and most likely attacked by another animal to cause the large abscess on her back.

Despite of all she’s been through, she is the SWEETEST little girl. And what better hands for our new baby to be in last night then one of our own! So lucky and glad Courtney was working.

Burrito met a very nice surgeon today! Dr. Winkler was happy with Burrito’s range of movement but said that she is too skinny to even think about any invasive procedures… so for the next two months, Burrito will be working on putting on weight and keeping her leg muscles from atrophying. Thankfully her foster mom is experienced with PT and hydrotherapy, and is basically an expert in snacking. In two months we will re-evaluate, but for now she is done with vet visits and is determined to eat her weight in Churu.”

Remembering Lilly – New Grant Program: Lilly’s Legacy Medical Fund

Philadoptables announces new grant program in memory of Board of Directors Vice President, Diana Bauer’s beloved dog, Lilly, who fought a battle with canine cancer.

Late last year, Lilly, was diagnosed and eventually passed away from Hemangiosarcoma, an aggressive blood vessel cancer.

After enduring the emotional and financial struggle of caring for a pet with cancer, Diana set out to create a resource to alleviate financial burdens for other pet parents.

“So often we see cost as a barrier to lifesaving veterinary care. Pet parents experiencing financial hardship are extremely limited on veterinary options and care if their pet becomes sick. This painful struggle may force people to surrender their beloved pets to local animal services as a last sort. This often results in a pet being separated from their family in their time of need while exacerbating the issues of the already overcrowded shelter system“ says Diana.

The new grant program, Lilly’s Legacy Medical Fund (LLMF), is set to provide support and assistance to pet owners with dogs diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma. The medical fund will provide partial financial support and reimbursement for verified medical expenses associated with the diagnosis, surgery or treatment of hemangiosarcoma.
